Let the Recruits know if they do anything while on-duty with the Fire/Smoke Script it will be handled by Fire CoC appropriately.
Ask the Recruit(s) if they have any questions
EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course)
Course:
Start Location: Station 2 (Paleto Bay) reference (EVOC course picture)
Starts at Paleto Bay Station in Ladder Truck
Drive to Sandy Airfield
Have them drive lights and sirens to the call
As a trainer, lead them in the ladder truck showing that the course can be done.
Requirements:
Fast with a sense of urgency but under control at all times
Slows down at all intersections and prepares to stop ( never full stop) and uses intersection sirens or horn to safely clear it.
Radio Operations Training:
Teach them how to call over radio and what you should say for different scenarios
Explain that once in service we don’t go by unit numbers, but by what apparatus we are on
Explain that in a radio transmission it is “hey you, it's me”
Ex. “Medic 20 from Engine 20”
Have them “call out of service ending shift”
Fire Ground Operations:* Location: Ace Liquor (1016)Structure Fire
Simulate a 911 call for a fire
Have the Recruits respond
Have them call on-scene and do a size up, explain what it is. YOU do one then have them do one as well. NOTE: Size-ups must be done on all fire-type calls; medical calls do not require them:
Call on-scene,
Type of structure & fire (Ex. 2-story residential structure with light smoke showing),
What you are going to do (Ex. Engine 60 is going to pull an attack line for primary search and fire attack,
Establish Command (Ex. Engine 60 has Whispymound Command), and
If needed, move to a Tac Channel.
Explain some things that they can do when they first get on-scene:
Setting up a water supply at the hydrant,
Setting up the pump,
Setting ladders or a fan, and
Performing a 360 of the building to establish any other hazards or extension.
EMPHASISE THEY MUST WORK AS A TEAM
All recruits should be wearing proper PPE
Establish building side designations (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta going clockwise from street entrance)
Explain to the Recruits that they need to be looking and aware for Hazards like explosive Hazards
Explain that if resources are available whoever is in command can set up a RIT (rapid intervention team) if there might be a mayday (Most of the time won’t have enough personnel)
Start Primary Search:
Have a pair of firefighters grab an attack line (preferred) or extinguisher and make entry into the building,
Explain that they need to stay low in smoky environments when possible,
Stay close to the walls,
Be mindful, if you have an attack line, of where that hose is, how much length you have left, and to not get wrapped up by debris,
Search room by room, staying with your partner, until all accessible areas have been searched,
Extricate any found patients to nearest, safe, exit (usually the one you entered), and
Keep Command informed of position and when/where you are leaving from with a patient.
Explain that searches can be conducted with an attack line but be mindful that water turns fire into hot steam which can harm the victims they are trying to save
Divisions should communicate with each other and command to extinguish the fire
Explain some of the things that recruits can do during a fire scene and after:
Pulling ceiling,
Checking for extension,
Using the TIC to search for the fire and victims,
Doing ventilation (WHEN NEEDED), and
Forcible entry (WHEN NEEDED).
Go over that, after a fire, you must mop up and extinguish all the hotspots:
Using smaller handlines to extinguish small fires,
Using the TIC to search for hotspots, and
Doing a secondary sweep to make sure that the building is clear.
Hose should be disconnected stored back in engine
Hydrant disconnected
Have command terminate and clear scene
Explain the commands of the ladder and tic, the Ladder Commands are as follows /ladder collect and to stow the ladder is /ladder store . To Collect the TIC /tic collect and to store the TIC is /tic store
MVA
Set up a vehicle accident on a major roadway
Explain the proper way to park an apparatus on the roadway (Ie. Engine or truck angled upstream from the wreck and the Ambulance should be in front)
Make sure the recruits have the proper ppe for wrecks (minimum on a fire apparatus Bunker pants helmet and vest) ( on an ambulance Helmet and vest)
Go over possible ways to stabilize a vehicle
Struts
Cribbing
Wench and cables
Have the Recruit(s) respond to an MVA and properly park their apparatus
Hazmat Training:* Location: Ace Liquor (1016)
The instructor should explain the proper way to set up a decon corridor by.
Explaining how to properly set up apparatus in a way to create a hallway for decontamination.
Explain the proper PPE used in decontamination is the same level or 1 level below the Technician working in the hot zone.
Explain how the firefighter can identify any potential hazardous materials incident from afar using binoculars and the ERG to help identify any markings if its a vehicle or any markings on buildings.
Every Apparatus has an ERG on it in the glove compartment.
Explain that every Engine or Truck will have a hazmat PPE kit and a hazmat kit that will have the tools in it to stop minor incidents and set up Decontamination.
Explain the 3 D’s in a spill
Dam: try and stop the spill by building up a damn using kitty litter or a tarp
Dike: stop the spill at the source by plugging the hole or fixing the crack.
Divert: use the kitty litter or something to divert the flow of the spill elsewhere to an area that wouldn’t cause problems
Boat Operations:
Spawn in the Nagasaki Dinghy 4 seater in red on the water somewhere
Go over that all personnel that are on a boat are to wear at minimum a PFD
Go over that in boat rescues they should call PA for assistance
Make sure to let the trainee know they are not to go off waterfalls and they are to be operating the boat in a safe manner.
BLS Training:* Location: Sandy Airfield (1020)
Go over the basics of what they can do as an EMT:
Bandaging and Splinting,
Taking vitals,
Driving the ambulance (Response speeds and clearing intersections),
Supporting the paramedic (try to think ahead and help them with the next steps),
The basic medications that EMTs can give (Look on the Cheat Sheet and explain the medications there),
Oxygen: This can be given Via a face mask or nasal cannula. If the PT has a breath rate below 12 or above 18 or they have a O2 sats below 92% they need supplemental oxygen.
Oral Glucose: This is used for diabedic Emergencies. If the PT has low glucose but is alert then you can give them this paste
Aspirin: this is used for minor pain relief. It can also be given to PTs who are complaining of chest pain or have possible cardiac issues
Nitroglycerin: this is given to PTs with High BP (from 90/60 to 120/80). This can also be given to PTs with chest pain.
Albuterol: This is used when a PT is having trouble breathing caused by asthma. This is in an inhaler or nebulizer.
Atrovent: is used for Bronchospasms caused by COPD. These are in ampules that are popped open and smelled.
Epipen: This is an injection device to be used for Allergic reaction only. If the PT is awake and aware, ask if they have their own. If not given them the one from a medpack to inject. If they are unconscious perform the injection yourself and transport ASAP. Epi is not used for Cardiac Events.
Narcan: this is used on a person having an Opioid overdose. An Opioid is a class of drugs that include Prescription Painkillers like morphine and Fentynol, Heroin, Meth, etc.
Green Whistle: This is an inhaled pain relief device. The PT can breathe in the 6-8 breaths from the device to help with pain. { do not give the PT more than 6mL of of Green Whistle }
Explain that all patients do not need a backboard.
The call can be anything medical related that the instructor sees fit
Have recruits respond and properly call on scene
Watch how the recruit handles the medical call (let them do as much as they possibly can on their own with as little help as possible)
Recruit should be wearing proper PPE
Should treat patients professionally and with a sense of urgency but not rush
The recruits should be working as a team to treat the patient not just standing around they should take initiative in patient care
Go over multiple patients with the Trainee
Mention to get vitals on all patients before detailed treatment is started, and
Remind them it is good practice to put your hands on all patients prior to treatment
Continue care in ambulance if necessary
Recruit should properly call transport to a proper medical center (Fire Control, Medic 20 enroute to hospital)
Have the Trainee verbalize what hospital and why they are transporting to and what code they would transport.
Make sure you have in your mind the correct hospital of the patient that you use during your scenario so that you can best educate the trainee if their answer is incorrect.
Go over the ER script with the Trainee and how to do it.
Go over the hospital locations as well as numbers that they go in. North to South 1-5
Go over different scenarios of where you would take a patient based off location
Ex. Chumash, Trauma patient would go to Zonah
Ex. Vespucci, code 1 transport would go to Central
Ex. Severe Trauma patient in Harmony could go to Sandy for county AirMed
Ex. Alert and oriented patient that has minor wounds could go to Sandy
Ex. Trauma patient from MVA on 13 could go to Paleto
Ex. Medical patient from Mirror Park can go to Pillbox
Patient Refusal Training
Do an impaired scenario that will have a patient that can walk without the aid of anything that they wouldn't need while sober and can keep vomit or any foreign objects out of the airway (Can refuse transport).
Do an impaired scenario that cannot walk without the aid of something they wouldn't need while sober and/or cannot keep vomit or any other foreign objects out of their airway (If refusing treatment; restrain them and take them to the ambulance)
Patient Hand Off
Show the Trainee the proper way to hand a patient to a hospital:
List the age and gender of the patient,
Say what you did in transport for the patient (ie. IV, meds, etc),
List the reason that they are being transported,
Say how long it has been since what caused them to call 911, and
Instruct the students that when transporting to Paleto Medical, they have to call in a patient report to let the hospital know that they are on the way (Have them review the SOP for the steps and have them read them out to you).
MDT Operations
After passing training, show those unfamiliar with the MDT how to operate it.
Go over how to go on-duty & available, attach to a call, mark themselves enroute & on-scene, and to clear off a call and return available.
Tell the Recruit's that if they search their character name up in the NCIC they will have a warrant for arrest on their character for Unauthorized Use of Computer, Cable, or Telecom Property

Remove there training server & remove whitelist
Give all passing recruits Fire tag
Log Member Tracking
Fill out training form (one per recruit)
Add them to the discord channel
Give them the Fire/EMS button on CAD
